Canadian Dental Care Plan Overview

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal initiative aimed at making dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents. Applications are open for the 2026-2027 benefit year.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for the CDCP, applicants must meet all four of the following requirements:

  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
  • Have filed the previous year’s tax return (and spouse’s, if applicable).
  • Have adjusted family net income below $90,000.
  • Not have access to dental insurance through employment, pension, or purchased private coverage.

Having dental coverage through a government social program does not disqualify you from the CDCP; benefits may be coordinated.

Covered Services:

The CDCP covers a comprehensive range of oral health services, including:

  • Preventive Services: Such as cleanings and fluoride treatments.
  • Diagnostic Services: Including examinations and X-rays.
  • Restorative Services: Treatments for cavities and broken teeth, including permanent and temporary fillings.
  • Endodontic Services: Treatments for diseases of the tooth pulp, like root canals.
  • Periodontal Services: Treatments for gum diseases.
  • Prosthodontic Services: Including dentures and bridges.
  • Oral Surgery: Such as tooth extractions.

It’s important to note that cosmetic dentistry services, like tooth whitening, are not covered under the CDCP.

Application Process:

Eligible individuals can apply for the CDCP online. The application process is designed to be user-friendly, guiding applicants through eligibility verification and submission of necessary documentation.

Renewal Process:

For current CDCP members, renewing coverage is essential to maintain uninterrupted benefits. Renewals can be completed online each year. If you miss the renewal window, you may need to re-apply, which could result in a coverage gap.

Contact Information:

For questions or concerns about the CDCP, individuals can contact the dedicated support line at 1-833-537-4342 (TTY: 1-833-677-6262).
