Canadian Dental Care Plan Overview
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal initiative aimed at making dental care more affordable for eligible Canadian residents. As of March 21, 2025, applications are open for:
- Seniors aged 65 and over
- Children under the age of 18
- Adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023
Current CDCP members are reminded to renew their coverage by June 1, 2025, to avoid potential gaps.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the CDCP, applicants must meet all four of the following requirements:
- Lack of Access to Dental Insurance: Applicants should not have any form of dental insurance or coverage through:
- Employer or union
- Federal, provincial, or territorial government programs
- Private insurance plans
- Income Thresholds: Applicants must have an adjusted family net income below specific thresholds, which vary based on family size.
- Age and Residency: Applicants must be Canadian residents and fall within the specified age groups or possess a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate.
- Application Phases: The CDCP is rolling out in phases. Currently, applications are open for the groups mentioned above, with other eligible residents able to apply later in 2025.
Covered Services:
The CDCP covers a comprehensive range of oral health services, including:
- Preventive Services: Such as cleanings and fluoride treatments.
- Diagnostic Services: Including examinations and X-rays.
- Restorative Services: Treatments for cavities and broken teeth, including permanent and temporary fillings.
- Endodontic Services: Treatments for diseases of the tooth pulp, like root canals.
- Periodontal Services: Treatments for gum diseases.
- Prosthodontic Services: Including dentures and bridges.
- Oral Surgery: Such as tooth extractions.
It’s important to note that cosmetic dentistry services, like tooth whitening, are not covered under the CDCP.
Application Process:
Eligible individuals can apply for the CDCP online. The application process is designed to be user-friendly, guiding applicants through eligibility verification and submission of necessary documentation.
Renewal Process:
For current CDCP members, renewing coverage is essential to maintain uninterrupted benefits. Renewals can be completed online, and members are encouraged to do so by June 1, 2025, to prevent any coverage gaps.
