Canadian Dental Care Plan Eligibility 2025
Who Qualifies for the CDCP?
1. No Access to Dental Insurance
You must not have any form of dental insurance through:
- Your employer or a family member’s employment benefits
- A professional or student organization
- Personal insurance policies or group plans
Exception: If you are retired and opted out of pension benefits before December 11, 2023, and cannot opt back in, you may still qualify.
2. Filed Taxes in Canada
You and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable) must have filed Canadian tax returns to verify your family income.
Important: If your spouse or common-law partner does not live in Canada and does not file taxes here, you are not eligible for the CDCP.
3. Adjusted Family Net Income Below $90,000
Your adjusted family net income must be less than $90,000. This is calculated as:
- Your family net income (line 23600 of your tax return) plus your spouse’s income
- Minus any Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) and Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) income
- Plus any UCCB or RDSP amounts repaid
4. Canadian Resident for Tax Purposes
You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes to qualify for the CDCP.
Can You Still Qualify If You Have Government Dental Coverage?
If you already receive dental benefits through a federal, provincial, or territorial social program, you may still qualify. The CDCP will coordinate coverage to prevent duplicate or overlapping benefits.
What Happens If You Provide False Information?
If you submit false information on your application, you and your family may be removed from the plan. You may also have to repay the full cost of services received under the CDCP.
